Gnusman53 would like it to be true that gasoline prices were higher under Bush in California. It is a matter of record that gasoline prices hit all time highs in California during the Obama regime, and they will be going much higher because of Obama.

no surprise, jg. Maintenance and fires in the refineries in the Midwest and West create bottlenecks.

Actually, there were higher gas prices in Calif under Bush.... in fact before the economic collapse, at least one gas station along Highway 1 was charging over $6 for a gallon....So the point about the price was what??? (grin)

In October 2012 I was on vacation in San Diego..gas for regular at that time was $4.95 gal. Cali is a great place to visit with plenty to do...but too expensive to live compared to FLORIDA >> Hair gets lighter, skin gets darker, water gets warmer, drinks get colder, music gets louder, nights get longer, and life is always better. Move to Florida and the gas prices aren't too high.

They should lower the gasoline tax some and impose an annual mileage tax on EVs, CNG vehicles and other alternative fuel vehicles.

When you drive, you pay. A car sitting parked does not burn gas.

70.1 cents per gallon in taxes here -- the highest in the country. That is more than $7 in taxes for every 10 gallons. And why not? This state leads the nation in the highest taxes of all sorts and the worst business environment in the country. Our unemployment rate is 3rd highest in the country at 9.8 percent, just behind Nevada and Rhode Island at 10.2 percent. We just raised income taxes and sales tax here, so we will likely sink lower in the growth of our economy. The DemocRATs in charge here are clueless about the economy. They don't understand why businesses, the wealthy and middle class are deserting this state. Yet the moron voters keep voting for them here.
Gov. Jerry "Moonbeam" Brown raised the gasoline tax when he was governor in the 70s. Back then he used the gasoline tax money for social welfare programs instead of on roads. After he left office, it took years to fix the roads that he left in disrepair. He is probably doing the same thing again now, but we won't know that until he leaves office and someone from the state government fesses up like last time.
No government has ever taxed itself to prosperity.

I don't mind paying for it, but those money can be only used to fixed roads freeways, bridges, etc, no other dept. or politicians can touch it...

How does this help California? I was thinking about driving through there on our vacation out west, but perhaps not with gas prices that high in CA.

We're voting on a sales tax increase today here in LALAland. Predictions are that it will pass and so we'll be @ 9.5%. It's time to retire to Texas.

"a shortfall in gas-tax revenue" Are you kidding me? Lower prices and consumption goes up and therefore, tax revenue goes up.
