Bills seek to reduce or remove ethanol from Maine

Stockhouse -- AUGUSTA — A pair of bills introduced Thursday by state Rep. Jeff Timberlake, R-Turner, could have a significant impact on what goes into the gas tank of your car, lawnmower or snowblower.

One of Timberlake's bills would cut the percentage of corn-derived ethanol in Maine gasoline from 10 percent to 5 percent. The other measure would allow the state to form a coalition with other New England states to create an ethanol-free gasoline market for Canadian petroleum-vendor Irving.

Timberlake said Irving has offered to deliver ethanol-free gasoline to customers in New England if it has a minimum of three states willing to eliminate ethanol from the gas supply. New Hampshire has passed similar legislation, Timberlake said.

He said he suspects that bill would be amended so gas stations

as long as EtOH is made from NON-Food materials, I'm okay with it. But jacking up the price of food so we can drive is robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Right. I was just pointing out that the demands to remove *ALL* ethanol from gas made no more sense than E10 or E15.

rj: EtOH has never been the answer. It might be a nice additive, but at 10 or 15 percent of fuel it's not been good. And you're right, it's to give more subsidies to corn growing states.

Take a reality check, people.

Ethanol is a great gas additive. It makes it burn cleaner, thus less pollution.

OTOH, it's a terrible gas substitute. E10 makes absolutely no rational sense, except as a giveaway for corn growing states.

Bills seek to reduce or remove ethanol from Maine! Somebody has to stop this ethanol crap in gasoline, Sneeky certainly isn't going to do anything about it. Many more states need to go along with No Ethanol in Gasoline. Bill Who?

Reduce or remove are the key words here. They will reduce it but by how much? The Feds will not let them remove it.

The whole Nation should have done it 3 yrs ago. They have known for at least that long it wasn't helping & that the overall effects were making the Environment worse as well as decreasing world food supplies.

“Timberlake called ethanol one of the worst ‘government boondoggles’ of his lifetime.”

Hurrah for Jeff Timberlake, Go Maine, Go New Hampshire. Perhaps New England can lead the country out of the ethanol swamp. It cannot happen too soon.
